We have a winner FREE 42: Tears of the Giraffe by Alexander McCall Smith. I found book one of the series. It’s a little warp, but very readable. I’ll post it here soon. Did I say how much I enjoy this book? It’s one of the few books that is not pure romance but I enjoyed it very much.

Congratulations Eva. Please e-mail me your mailing address. You can use the contact form above too.

Tears of the Giraffe (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Book 2)
by Alexander McCall Smith
Paperback
Published in 2002
ISBN-10: 1-4000-3135-4

If you’ve never heard of Precious Ramotswe and her “The No. 2 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” then you’re in for a pleasant and fun time. Alexander McCall Smith’s Mma. Ramotse is smart and forceful without being over-bearing. She’s strong, and she also enjoys simple pleasures in life, like her house. She loves her house, and she loves her father.

I would have like to list the first book in the series, but I can’t find it. Also, it’s slightly warped from the spilled apple juice on it. It was my baby’s apple juice, and the edges of the pages are warped. Still readable, but not so pretty. I guess my mother made such strong impression on me not to give away things that are not at least ‘good.’

This second book in the series is very entertaining, and the pacing is just right. You have to see for yourself, and you can let me know if you agree with me on this one.

From back of book:
Precious Ramotswe is the eminently sensible and cunning proprietor of the only ladies’ detective agency in Botswana. In Tears of the Giraffe she tracks a wayward wife, uncovers an unscrupulous maid, and searches for an American man who disappeared into the plains many years ago. In the midst of resolving uncertainties, pondering her impending marriage to a good, kind man, Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni, and the promotion of her talented secretary (a graduate of the Botswana Secretarial College, with a mark of 97 per cent), she also finds her family suddenly and unexpectedly increased by two.
