Sky Watch & Giveaways

We took out daughter out for dinner because she had reach another landmark into adulthood. We’re so proud of her and what she has accomplished already. We went to Cheesecake Factory, where I overeat as usual. Why do they have plates the size of a laundry basin from the Philippines?

That’s me in a more flattering silhoutte. When I’m a little slim again, I’ll post the other picture which is not so flattering.

Now, on to the free book….because after all, this is This Book For Free. Unless you expressly said you don’t want to be included in the drawing, you have a chance to win one of the two books posted below. One manly book (ahem, action and mayhem) and one womanly book (romance and all that stuff, signed copy from my San Francisco trip).

F is for fun, food, and all things fine. ABC Wednesday is fun. This is a soup in bread bowl. It does nothing for my husband, but I like it. I guess food is quite subjective.

But F is also for FREE, as in ‘this book for free’. So leave your comments for a chance to win Vince Flynn’s Acts of Treason in hardcover. It’s used but still in very good condition.

Act of Treason (Mitch Rapp Novels)
by Vince Flynn
Hardcover

It’s a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a grand estate where a national security conference has just been held, bringing together the world’s greatest minds to discuss the issues that are threatening the country. It’s American politicking at its best. That’s when all hell breaks loose.

When presidential candidate Josh Alexander’s motorcade is ambushed by a group of terrorists, the nation is thrown into turmoil. Two weeks following the attack, Alexander is carried to victory by a sympathy vote, but his assailants have not been found. On the surface it appears to be the work of al-Qaeda, despite the tremendous job that the U.S. and her allies have done eliminating terrorist cells within the heart of America. While the FBI and the rest of the government begin scouring the world for jihadists, CIA director Irene Kennedy and Special Agent Skip McMahon are presented with classified information so toxic that they consider destroying it altogether, as it contains intelligence pointing to some of the most powerful players in Washington.

Enter Mitch Rapp, the one man reckless enough to follow the evidence to its explosive conclusion. His journey takes him through the shadowy world of contract killers, into the darkest corners of the globe, and eventually back to Washington, where the fragile pillars of power are shaken to their core.

I’m reading this series, but I’m still on the second book. I have two copies of this book, so you get to enjoy it too.

Learning to Breathe
by Karen White
Paperback
Published in 2007
ISBN-10: 0-451-22034-X

This is one of the dozens of books I bought for my faithful readers. :) I still haven’t taken a picture of the whole lot…but they look good. Really good. This book is signed by Karen White. I’m also going to see if I can get some answers to the questions we have on another post.

Brenna O’Brien doesn’t believe in happy endings. Not since the love of her life, Pierce McGovern, left her years ago without a word. Now, she leads a quiet life surrounded by her four matchmaking sisters, running a historic movie theater and collecting old wartime letters. But she leaves the letters unopened, preferring to imagine their possibilities rather than risk being disappointed.

Then Pierce comes back to town, shattering Brenna’s hard-earned peace-and forcing her to re-examine everything, and realize that if she doesn’t come to terms with the life she let slip away, she may never have the courage to go after the life she wants.
