My Take:
I like paranormal stories before it became popular. Then I stopped reading it for a while because it seems like it’s only all about vampires. Then I found out about Carrie Vaughn and her Kitty Norville. What a refreshing take on the werewolf story. Kitty is not really extraordinary in anyway, except for being a werewolf. She didn’t even know how to kick ass until she took lessons in mixed martial arts long after she’d become a werewolf.

I think Kitty is too nice sometimes. Still she’s a believable character for me. My mother’s too nice and sometimes, I wish she’s weren’t so nice that people take advantage of her, or thought she’s not strong just because she’s careful with people’s feelings. While reading this book, I thought it would be cool if my mother is a werewolf too. Then she’d have a little protection from her niceness to the wrong people.

While it’s true that this book is a series, each book itself is stand alone. You can read it and still be very satisfied about a good story. If you read it in order, then you’ll see how Kitty grows from someone almost everyone just kicks around because they can, or because she just doesn’t like violence. Later on in the series, she’s grown stronger and actually helps others in need. This is one of those series where you’ll forget about chores and sleep; it’s very hard to put it down. So, when starting one, get comfortable because you’ll want to find out what’s going to happen next.

Kitty’s Midnight Hour show was so successful, everybody is paying attention to her. As much as she’d like to be the unknown face behind the voice, it isn’t happening. Now, she’s nomad, homeless and doing her radio show on the run. I didn’t really feel sad for her because I can feel that she’s enjoying this nomadic existence. Sure, she missed her pack, but there’s so many things going on that she doesn’t think much about it.

In this second installment of her adventures, she has her bounty hunting almost friend Cormac, Ben – her lawyer, and Alette – the overprotective vampire. She ends up in Washington to testify as an expert in her field. She never claimed to be one, but she was swept into it.

I find this book exciting. She gets into scrapes which looks like she might never make it out. I’m thinking that if you like Stephanie Plum you might also like Kitty. I like Cormac’s character. He reminds me of Ranger (from Janet Evanovich’s character).  I don’t know which direction the next book should go, but I want to be entertained. I can’t wait to read the next one – Kitty Takes a Holiday.

I started reading this series for the Carrie Vaughn Blog Tour starting on March 25. This will be the first time I’ve join a blog tour. I don’t quite know what to do, so any helpful hints would surely be appreciated. I started reading paranormal book with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. Actually, before Kenyon, Linda Lael Miller wrote a trilogy about vampires that I enjoyed. I read a few Madeliene Baker, too. But it wasn’t until Sherrilyn Kenyon that I started looking for paranormal books.

This book opens with Kitty working late at night at a radio station. She started a talk show out of boredom and it became a hit. If you’re a fan of X-Men, then you’ll enjoy this book. I like Kitty because I can relate to her. She stumbled on success and kept it with her talent for making people talk. Wolves typically belong to a pack, and Kitty does too. Except her pack is falling apart.

In this book, were-wolves can change into their animal forms at anytime, but during full moon, it’s compulsory. I find Kitty fascinating because she reminds me a bit of Data from Star Trek, The Next Generation. She’s not an android, but she’s like Data in her quest to make sure her humanity rules her animal form.

When safety becomes an issue, she took some self-defense classes and put it to good use. Kitty is a believable character. I can’t wait to start the next book in this series.
