My Take:
My sincere thanks to Miriam of Hachete Book Group for my copy of this book. I’m not done reading this book yet. I’m enjoying it. The Castaways reads like a soap opera, or maybe even prime time drama like Grey’s Anatomy. There’s affairs and drugs and really great scenery in this book. I find myself cringing in some places. But then again, it’s hard to tell what one person will do unless faced with the same situation. It’s very easy to say, I would never do that. But what happens if you’re living that life?
I like how this story is told from different person’s perspective. I’m not a fan of books with affairs in the main theme, but a talented author can make me sit down and keep on reading even if it’s not something I would normally read. Elin Hilderbrand’s The Castaways is compeling enough that I am going to keep on reading until the end. I wanted to see how it all turn out.
About the book:
Greg and Tess MacAvoy are one of four prominent Nantucket couples who count each other as best friends. As pillars of their close-knit community, the MacAvoys, Kapenashes, Drakes, and Wheelers are important to their friends and neighbors, and especially to each other. But just before the beginning of another idyllic summer, Greg and Tess are killed when their boat capsizes during an anniversary sail. As the warm weather approaches and the island mourns their loss, nothing can prepare the MacAvoy’s closest friends for what will be revealed.
Once again, Hilderbrand masterfully weaves an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.
