Gods Behaving Badly
by Marie Phillips
Published in 2008
Product Description
From Marie Phillips, hailed by the Guardian Unlimited website as a “hot author” destined to “break through” in 2007, comes a highly entertaining novel set in North London, where the Greek gods have been living in obscurity since the seventeenth century.Being immortal isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Life’s hard for a Greek god in the twenty-first century: nobody believes in you any more, even your own family doesn’t respect you, and you’re stuck in a dilapidated hovel in North London with too many siblings and not enough hot water. But for Artemis (goddess of hunting, professional dog walker), Aphrodite (goddess of beauty, telephone sex operator) and Apollo (god of the sun, TV psychic) there’s no way out… until a meek cleaner and her would-be boyfriend come into their lives and turn the world upside down.
Gods Behaving Badly is that rare thing, a charming, funny, utterly original novel that satisfies the head and the heart.

Well, I didn’t know that. I should loan you my JR Ward series. They;re not quite goddesses, but they’re awesome. Just ignore the surplus of ‘Hs’.

This is a new book to me and I would enjoy the chance to read it. I wandered over to Hachette and they have tons of books I’d love to read but the title “Kitty Raises Hell” by Carrie Vaughn caught my eye. Its one of the Kitty books I have not read yet.
As for my favorite genre, thats easy. Paranormal romance. I love to read about vampires, werewolves, gargoyles, and all sorts of other cool species. My first PR book was “Circus of the Damned” by Laurell K Hamilton. The great title and cover made me buy it. I was hooked after reading it.

I’m very new to paranormal, but boy, oh boy, I love it! It’s mainly because of Sherrilyn Kenyon and JR Ward. Any other authors I should know about?
LadyVampire2u reply on November 2nd, 2008 3:57 am:
There are tons of awesome authors out there. I could go on and on with my huge list of favorites. But here are some of the authors that top my list:
Laurell K Hamilton, Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Kresley Cole, Marjorie M Liu, C.L.Wilson, Karen Chance, Lara Adrian, Richelle Mead, Dakota Cassidy, MaryJanice Davidson, Lori Handeland, Christine Warren, Kerrilyn Sparks, Ilona Andrews, Larissa Ione, Christine Feehan, Sunny, Yasmine Galenorn, Jeaniene Frost, Kinley MacGregor, Nalini Singh, Gena Showalter, etc. Just a few name right? LOL Okay, I do actually have more favorites then this but then I am a huge bookreader.

LadyVampire2u: We are kindred spirits. I can’t wait to read the new Carrie Vaughn book, and LKH was kind of my intro to the genre too.
LadyVampire2u reply on October 31st, 2008 3:38 am:
Okay, I cannot resist asking Carrie. What was the first book of LKH’s that you ever read?

Carrie J reply on November 2nd, 2008 12:35 pm:
It was Narcissus in Chains. After that I was completely hooked and ordered everything she’d written via Amazon. I own or have on my “to be bought” list most of the authors you listed above and am excited about the few new ones. I’ve always been a reader, but I had no idea what I was missing until that first LKH book. Now my shelves are groaning with paranormal romance and the bf handles it with great aplomb though he does like to tease sometimes.

I’d really like to win!
I want to read “Poseur #2: The Good, the Fab and the Ugly” because I looove chick lit.
For the genres, although I love chick my weakness is for historical fiction. something about it is just soo ….goood. One of my favorite historical fiction authors is definately Ann Rinaldi. She can make a student who sleeps in history class be obsessed with her historical books. Out of all her books, “Time Enough for Drums” is my favorite- about a love between two different worlds during a war.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and fellow booklover. I would love the chance to win a copy of this book. Another book from the Hachette site that I would be interested in is “Desire Unchained” by Larissa Ione. I read books from many genres, but right now my 2 favorites are Paranormal Romance or Erotica. I love the vamps and shape shifters, and when the story goets hotter than hot - I am one VERY happy woman.

#1 Sounds similiar to being retired. But that isn’t all bad, it gives more time to read.
#2 Ok, as far as visiting the Hachette site, that is just unfair. There are way too many books there I want. Chris Bunch’s The Demon King would be great and thusly force me to buy book one and three in the trilogy. Any of Octavia Butler’s work or Andre Norton or you see the problem.
#3 Genre, hmm fantasy and scifi often bleed across each other, often in the stories quite liberally. Delving back into time, Mr Bass’ Planetoid (Mushroom Planet, book 3) by Eleanor Cameron is the first book I can clearly recall. That book launched a ship that is often swamped to foundering with books. The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek by Evelyn Sibley Lampman would be the other that I recall. I tracked it down my first year of teaching and read it to my 5th grade class. The prevailing reasons for my deep love of scifi/fantasy beyond the entertainment value are that there is normally a clear cut right and wrong. The villain is evil and the hero is good. The protagonist exhibits nobility, valor, courage, loyalty, steadfastness, honor, camaraderie and is a character to be emulated. The genre provides a venue for a strong female role model as well. Honor Harrington or Heris Serrano are the kind of women I would want my granddaughter to emulate. Succinctly scifi/fantasy provides uplifting stories with characterizations that are laudable.

Hello! I love your blog! I was snooping around Hachette and my favorite book has to be any of those by Amanda Scott. A Highland Wedding
Ok on to my favorite genre, I love Historicals! I love the rogue scotsman, or norseman that sees what he wants and tries to get it… but the woman is a fiesty little thing but can’t help falling in love. Yes most of the stories are the same in a way with the happily ever after, but I’m a sucker for a good chick book tears are ok too!

One of my favorite genre’s would be historical western romance ~ especially Sarah McCarty’s Promises series. They are a great ride back in time to the old west … when times were hard and men were harder.

I’d love to read Testimony by Anita Shreve.
I don’t know if it’s my favorite, but I love funny mysteries, like Joan Hess or Donna Andrews. I can relax, giggle, and not get too grossed out like i do with the more gruesome thrillers!
