FREE 26: Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie

Charlie All Night (Harlequin Temptation, No 570)
by Jennifer Crusie
Paperback
Published in 1995

Here's another Crusie for you from Harlequin Temptation. This is the Harlequin line that I used to read in my early teens. It's like contraband. I imagine it's as exciting as smoking weed. I never tried weed, but just try reading a book with a couple hugging on the cover and the guy is half naked...during church services.

See, I told you it's like contraband. Imagine how it feels when I was caught, right in the middle of discussing the Revelations, with a totally different revelation of my own. BTW, it wasn't a Crusie book, but it was Harlequin Temptation, and I was only 12. Oh, the shame of it all! It never stopped me from reading, only I had to be craftier than the last time.

Book Description

Dumped by her boyfriend and demoted from WBBB's prime-time spot, radio producer Allie McGuffey has nowhere to go but up. She plans to make her comeback by turning temporary DJ Charlie Tenniel into a household name. And if he's willing to help her cure her breakup blues with a rebound fling, that's an added bonus.
Charlie just wants to kick back, play good tunes and eat Chinese food. He's not interested in becoming famous. But he is interested in Allie. And after all, what harm in a little chemistry between friends?

But suddenly their one-night stand has become a four-week addiction. Night after night on the airwaves, his voice seduces her. . .and all the other women in town. He's a hit. It looks as if Charlie's solved all Allie's problems. . .except one. What is she going to do when he leaves?

Anyone But You (Harlequin Love and Laughter, No 4)
by Jennifer Crusie
Paperback
Published in 1996

I enjoyed this book so much, I went and bought all of Jennifer Crusie's book. She will make you laugh til you get stitches. She's that good. I kept a copy of her books for re-read, but noticed that I have two of some of her books. If you haven't tried Crusie, what are you waiting for?

Product Description

For Nina Askew, turning forty means freedom--from the ex-husband, freedom from their stuffy suburban home, freedom to focus on what she wants for a change. And what she wants is something her ex always vetoed--a puppy. A bouncy, adorable puppy.

Instead she gets…Fred.

Overweight, middle-aged, a bit smelly and obviously depressed, Fred is light-years from perky. But he does manage to put Nina in the path of Alex Moore, her gorgeous, younger-by-a-decade neighbor.

Alex seems perfect--he's a sexy, seemingly sane, surprisingly single E.R. doctor--but the age gap convinces Nina that anyone but Alex would be better relationship material. But with every silver-haired stiff she dates, the more she suspects it's the young, dog-loving doc she wants to sit and stay!

This was made into a movie. I have not seen it. I finally listened to the story in audio, so I don't have to read this book. I have someone 'read' it for me.

If you've missed this Grisham book, then here's your chance to read his non-lawyer book. A different pace, but still a Grisham. Fun read, though it gets uncomfortable with all those nosy neighbors.

From amazon:

Book Description
Luther and Nora Krank are fed up with the chaos of Christmas. The endless shopping lists, the frenzied dashes through the mall, the hassle of decorating the tree... where has all the joy gone? This year, celebrating seems like too much effort. With their only child off in Peru, they decide that just this once, they'll skip the holidays. They spend their Christmas budget on a Caribbean cruise set to sail on December 25, and happily settle in for a restful holiday season free of rooftop snowmen and festive parties.

But the Kranks soon learn that their vacation from Christmas isn't much of a vacation at all, and that skipping the holidays has consequences they didn't bargain for...

A modern Christmas classic, Skipping Christmas is a charming and hilarious look at the mayhem and madness that have become ingrained in our holiday tradition.

About this book:

small town Arkansas!
Hidden in the Wall (Reunion Revelations, Book 1) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #84)

A TREASURE OF THE HEART is another Arkansas book by Valerie Hansen. This time, she has taken readers to "Gumption", although those who love "Serenity" will find plenty of cross references to that fictitious little Ozark town, too. Although this book is not a true suspense or mystery, it has plenty of excitement, and of course, romance and faith.
The above link is for Hansen's next book, coming in January. It's the first in a six-book series set in Georgia.

A reader's review:

AWESOME
This book isn't just great, it's awesome. I don't write reviews very often, only on books that really touch me, and man this one did. I inhaled it. I should say too, that I haven't read the first books of the series, I was hungry for a Texas love story and this fit the bill. Ali was so adorable, she hooked me from the first page, and Garrett was cool, in a nerdy kind of way and that was very endearing.
Loved it. Off to order the rest in the series.
Thanks, Peggy Moreland for an enjoyable afternoon.

This is part of A Piece of Texas series.

It was an assignment she couldn't refuse. Ultra capable assistant Sally Gregg had to take care of her boss for one week. No phones. No computers. No stress. Not an easy task considering Vince Donnelly was a workaholic—a tyrant she had little use for outside the office.

Then the business tycoon decided seducing his secretary would be the ultimate way to pass the time.....

FREE 18: Cold Sassy Tree by Olivia Ann Burns

Cold Sassy Tree
by Olive Ann Burns
Paperback

List Price: $5.95
Published in 1986
ISBN-10: 0-440-51442-8

I read this book and loved it! It's been around awhile, but I feel like it's one of the best novel ever written. Right there alongside Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible, Betty Smith's A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and the likes.

Synopsis:

The one thing you can depend on in Cold Sassy, Georgia, is that word gets around - fast. When Grandpa E. Rucker Blakeslee announces one July morning in 1906 that he's aiming to marry the young and freckledy milliner, Miss Love Simpson - a bare three weeks after Granny Blakeslee has gone to her reward - the news is served up all over town with that afternoon's dinner. And young Will Tweedy suddenly finds himself eyewitness to a major scandal. Boggled by the sheer audacity of it all, and not a little jealous of his grandpa's new wife, Will nevertheless approves of this May-December match and follows its progress with just a smidgen of youthful prurience. As the newlyweds' chaperone, conspirator, and confidant, Will is privy to his one-armed, renegade grandfather's second adolescence; meanwhile, he does some growing up of his own. He gets run over by a train and lives to tell about it; he kisses his first girl, and survives that too. Olive Ann Burns has given us a timeless, funny, resplendent novel - about a romance that rocks an entire town, about a boy's passage through the momentous but elusive year when childhood melts into adolescence, and about just how people lived and died in a small Southern town at the turn of the century. Inhabited by characters who are wise and loony, unimpeachably pious and deliciously irreverent, Cold Sassy, Georgia, is the perfect setting for the debut of a storyteller of rare brio, exuberance, and style.

My random drawer is sick with ear infection and strep throat.

So, I thought I'd give this random.org a try. Here's what I did. I took all comments (except mine) from the two post of Free 12. I plugged the numbers into this blanks. I clicked on a button and it spits out the winner for me. Of course, my baby would rather do it. But he's really out of it, he can't face drawing my winner.

My 3-year old would do it in a jiffy, except he's really upset with his lost balloon right now. So, random.org it is.
